Required Qualifications Must have deep understanding of theories and teaching methodologies along with sophisticated understanding of the academic, social and emotional needs of children learning English as a second language Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively Must have ability to collect and analyze data in order to make recommendations for instructional programming Must have well-established communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to share information and resources with stakeholders as appropriate MA DESE English as a Second Language certification at the appropriate grade level Bachelor's degree, minimum requirement Language skill in Mandarin, Arabic or Russian preferred Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Serve as an ELL classroom leader by providing high-quality, modified, and differentiated instruction to students that meet high standards for all students and monitor progress Create a safe and purposeful learning environment Collaborate with other teachers, instructional leaders, and partners to ensure instruction is meeting the needs of students Assess students appropriately, analyze data, and determine appropriate next steps Communicate regularly with families to solicit input and share academic progress Participate in regular professional development opportunities before and during the school year Strive by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives, and performance expectations as listed in the strategic plan. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Report findings. Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional. Take an active part in the contractually -approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning the results of that evaluation. Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff Job Environment: Work takes place in classrooms and other building rooms/areas, including offices, auditorium, gym, lunchroom and hallways, within a school building setting, primarily indoors. Job takes place in a high-performing school district with high expectations. Physical Requirements: Requires sufficient vision to read printed documents and to view detail on a computer screen for extended periods. Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs. Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and in the classroom. Ability to hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.
